Instagram influencers, and other things I am angry at
A photo series on the objects of my ire
Oh here goes the angry Arab woman again. Words run out of my mouth before I can catch them. I speak my anger. I feel shame about it. I silence myself. However, as I am working to become a therapist, I am finding repressed anger turned into self-hate, passive aggressiveness, regrets and resentment.
Photographer Jane Hu and I teamed up two months ago to capture things I am ashamed of. This time we collaborated again to capture some of the things and people I am angry at, without getting caught in fear or shame.
I strongly believe, that especially as women, if we express anger in a mindful way, it can be a powerful energy to drive change, create art, deepen relationships, improve our health, and even bring fun into our lives, like we did with our photoshoot.
Once we completed the project, I did not feel as angry at the people or the things. Feelings of playfulness and lightness took over. After all, perhaps expressing our anger can make us feel less angry.
